We've all been there. Facing a challenge that feels so overwhelming, so insurmountable, that we just want to throw our hands up in defeat. Maybe it's a project at work, a relationship issue, or a personal struggle.
For me, it was a necklace. Now, I know you are asking yourself if I've lost my mind. But, I bet you've had a tangled necklace before and I have a point, I promise!
This was not just any necklace. This was a tangled, knotted mess of a necklace that seemed to symbolize all the frustrations I was facing in my life and it was teaching me a lesson.
Every time I forced it, tried to rush the untangling process, it only got worse—and boy, did that send me into a tizzy! Cue the negative self-talk and that didn't help at all.
This necklace became a metaphor for my journey and it was the biggest pain in the a**. It represented the overwhelm, the frustration, and the seeming lack of progress that often accompanies personal growth and I was going through all the things—all at once. Every time I forced a solution, it backfired.
It wasn't until I finally relaxed, released the urgency, and approached it with patience and consistency and a new mindset that I started to see small wins and, of course, enlisted some help! See where I'm going with this?
It wasn't a linear process. I'd make progress, then take a step back. The necklace would get tighter, more tangled. Holy cow did this necklace give me so much grief! But I learned to stop, breathe, and remember that setbacks are a natural part of the journey.
This "stinker" took me a while and more than once I wanted to break it and then write a note to whoever made it and tell them that they need to rethink their necklace design. 🤣 It sat there for ages, mocking me with its tangled mess. I even put it out where I could see it, a constant reminder it was beating me (it seems I like to torment myself! A story for another day). I even enlisted the help of friends, letting them take a turn at the puzzle. It was actually a friend who finally untangled it. Thank goodness!
The message in this tangled mess? Healing and big changes take time. Be patient and kind to yourself when you face challenges. Celebrate the small wins and view missteps as learning opportunities. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask for help. Having a supportive network can make all the difference. Easier said that done, I know.
And, in case you are wondering about the fate of this necklace, it remains on my refrigerator, not to be worn, because I can't go through that again, nor can my friends.🤣
Thanks, Becca, for being my tangled, knotted mess of a life and necklace savior. I'm forever grateful❤️ 🤗
